Just another bump in the road

I am pretty sure I already lost another opportunity before anything came of it, without understanding why. This is just how it is for me. Never had an opportunity that was fruitful for me. Someone will make an offer, and I will agree to it happily, then without any further communication where I have the chance to mess things up, the offer is rescinded without explanation. I don’t climb or rise up, I just lay at the bottom. People step over me when they start to climb.

The last one was a job at the local museum. It was an amazing opportunity. I was offered a temp gig to show my potential. I did well, they all told me so. The higher ups enthusiastically insisted I put in a proper application because they wanted me, nodding their head emphatically while saying it..though there was a process. The fella who would’ve been my boss sat down and filled it out with me, even. And then….nothing. I followed up..I emailed saying simply- “Hello, just wanted to follow up and see what the progress was on my application?” Pretty straightforward and concise to not waste his time. He replied making it clear I shouldn’t email, he’ll be in touch. And then…nothing. That was 5 months ago. I figure I should assume I didn’t get the job. A job that would have pulled me up out of the hole I’ve been in for the first time in my life.

This time is was a job as an assistant producer. I have done all the things before and shown I can keep up, and firmly, but appropriately and kindly, keep him on task. I said yes to the offer, and he said we should touch base in a…
