The Case for the 15 Minute City

I live in a bit of an island in the middle of the hellscape that is Miami. I know, those of you who have never been here are thinking, how can living in a beach destination possibly be a hellscape??? Well, when a 17 minute drive takes you 2 hours just cause of normal daily traffic…that’s how. Add in corruption, cost of living being the highest in the nation, and humidity that chokes the breath out of you the minute you open the door, and you should be getting the idea by now.
That said, I rarely have to expose myself to the icks of Miami. Namely cause my little neighborhood has everything I need. It has everything most anyone needs. It’s so nice here, my tenants have said they have no intention of moving even if cheaper apartments in the city become available. They love it in this neighborhood too much.
Here is the set up-
15 minutes’ walk to the South: I come across 3 schools, a church, a park, 7 Eleven, Walgreens, a tiny shopping strip, and a gas station.
15 minutes North, I can find a grocery store, restaurants, another park with a public pool, gas, coin laundry, Pet Supermarket, a nail salon, Goodwill, hair salon and barber, doctor’s offices, vets, dentist, mechanics, a trendy IPA bar, specialized markets (Asian, Spanish..etc), CVS, art galleries, and more.
