Unfortunately, what is not being understood by people is the computer isn't writing anything, it is piecing together /other/ people's stolen copyrighted works. So it's worse than just not writing one's own stuff, the tech is actually harmful to legitimate writers.
EDIT: As someone now working for one of those companies, and having read an article that says it’s even worse overseas, I can firmly say there is absolutely nothing ethical about AI. If it’s not stolen work being used, it’s our sweatshop labor for unfair wages that is training it. $3 for 2 hours of writing stories, essays, and letters. Management that doesn’t respond. No matter the quality of work, if they don’t feel like paying, they deem it poor, and just don’t pay, or pay much less (this one has not happened to me yet, but a lot of others) even tho the work was already done. The work is not created by the machine. It is created by us, the writers and artists, then pieced together by the machine. If you think I am guessing and just don’t understand, refer back to where I state I am now working for them, training the main one everyone is using.
